What is an Indoor Percussion Ensemble? An Indoor percussion ensemble or indoor drumline consists of the marching percussion and sideline percussion sections of a marching band or drum corps. It marries elements of music performance, marching, and theater; thus, the activity is often referred to as percussion theater.
Over the last 20 years, marching percussion has advanced and moved into auditoriums and gymnasiums as percussion ensembles looked for ways to maintain their skills during the winter months.
Competitive groups are held to specific times and judged on criteria that change every season as technology and creativity blossom. These ensembles compete, but traditionally, the musical sport is treated as a place to grow together as a community, learn new techniques, and enjoy the work done by peers from across the country.

(Scholastic or Independent) Highest level. The most advanced programs with the more mature performers a class where innovation and setting standards is the goal. This category is open to a unit with the membership talent, design and instructional staff and budget to place their unit in this challenging level to stimulate growth and development through World Class competition. (As defined by Tournament of Bands) What is KIDA? The Keystone Indoor Drill Association is a competitive, educational indoor circuit. We have over 80 units in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. The units compete in 3 disciplines; Majorettes, Percussion, and Colorguard. The Keystone Indoor Drill Association was formed in the interest of teaching the principles of good sportsmanship, fairness in all aspects, professionalism, and proper conduct under any and all prevailing conditions
It is the desire of the Keystone Indoor Drill Association to promote better understanding among the units, good public relations, and above all, an atmosphere that is conductive to good clean competition.

In an effort to see that this progression continues, we are pleased to announce the formation of the Mid-Atlantic Percussion Society, or MAPS. MAPS has been created to provide the utmost in music education and adjudication in the areas of concert and marching percussion. Utilizing nationally recognized percussion performers and adjudicators we will offer a unique and exciting approach to the indoor activity. We intend to provide comprehensive state of the art education in the percussion idiom. You and your students are, or course, the lifeblood of our Society. We need to hear from you to better design and cater our organization to the needs of the educators and performers in the Mid-Atlantic region as well as the entire percussion community. Possibly you are seeking guidance on starting a percussion ensemble? Or looking for a new venue for your competitive ensemble(s)? Maybe you are looking to supplement your indoor schedule with a few more shows? The Percussive Arts Society is the world's largest percussion organization and is considered the central source for information and networking for percussionists and drummers of all ages. Established in 1961 as a non-profit, music service organization, our mission is to promote percussion education, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world. Today, we are 9,000-members strong with 50 chapters located across the United States, and an additional 24 chapters outside the United States. PAS publishes two bi-monthly publications, Percussive Notes and Percussion News, and a website that contains publication archives, research databases, a conference center, museum tour and other features. PAS is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, and includes the Percussive Arts Museum and Library, which contain rare and unusual percussion instruments and scores.
For over 45 years the Percussive Arts Society has been serving all levels of percussion performers as well as the percussion industry. Each year PAS hosts the largest percussion convention in the world, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), featuring the top names in drumming and percussion. Now in its 33rd year, PASIC features more than 100 concerts, clinics, master classes, labs, workshops, panels and presentations. The top percussion artists from all over the world present and perform in areas that include, drumset, marching, keyboard, symphonic, timpani, world, recreational, education, music technology, new music, and health and wellness. Attendance is over 6,000 annually.
PAS also features the International Drum and Percussion Expo, which includes over 200 percussion related manufacturers, publishers and organizations exhibiting and demonstrating the latest instruments, sticks and mallets, accessories, music, and related products and services.
